VA
"Nanoloop 1.0"

CD, Disco Bruit, 2002

Nanoloop was a music making program for
Gameboys that allowed users to manipulate
the consoles limited range of sounds. In a
way, its influence was a bridge between the
NES era blips and bleeps of the 80's & today's
codified acceptance of 8-bit sounds which have
become ubiquitous aspects of the pop culture
sound scape, which is impressive considering
the obscure, diy culture in which the program
originated.

This compilation served as an advertisement
for the newly released software, the tracks on
which strikingly conveyed the styles of those
involved using only basic tones and noises as
their raw material

Artists featured on this compilation incl
Blectum From Blechdom, Pita, Merzbow,
Hrvatski, DAT Politics, Scratch Pet Land.

Zbigniew Karkowski
RIP 1958-2013

Right around the millennium, a video of Zbigniew Karkowski
performing live solidified my interest in making noise music.
The intense expressions on his monitor screen lit face
were an epiphany. I have followed his career and works
with enthusiasm since then.

That Karkowski passed from the same type of illlness that
took my father a few months back makes the noise masetros
death all the more personal for me. Pancreatic cancer is the
cruelty of natural on full display.

Condolences to his family and loved ones.
