AFX
"Smojophace EP"

12'', MEN, 2003

This 12'' was somewhat of a curiosity at the time.
I'd ordered this from the label in '03 not knowing
that 15 of the 20 minutes on it were noise music.
By then, AFX was several years past his remixing-
anything-that-moves stage, so this remix was a
rarity. Even more rare were the noise tracks that
his devotees were convinced contained cryptic
information to be decoded (see Windowlicker ep).
To their disappoint it didn't.

This came out the year after Warp Records had
ventured into noise territory with the release of
the Merzbow/Haswell "Satanstornade" album,
so apparently, noise had made worked its way into
the worlds best regarded electronic music label.
